I decided to intervene personally here, to address any issues surrounding the next wave of WHW releases...and my apologies for replying in English, but the only German I know is beer.
Regarding "Lovesongs Of The Forsaken" - it is part of the same series commemorating the 20th Anniversary. You will note the identical graphic presentation on the back panel of the gatefold. One of the primary incentives of this particular release is that it will fix the flawed "Lovesongs" portion of the "Chapter One" 2LP, in the same way that the "Sorrow Of The Angels" LP from earlier this year did. Additionally, our debut EP has been out-of-print since 1995. The B-side contains the original 1994 promo cassette, which originally was pressed in a quantity of 50...meaning unless you were one of the 45 people that actually got one outside of the band, you've never heard it. That said, it's merely a bonus that I thought would be a cool thing for the diehards. Anyway, everyone should know that I'm a perfectionist, and fixing side 3 of "Chapter One" is something that I've wanted to do since it was released originally.
"Vessel" is simply the single from "Vast Oceans Lachrymose"...it should've been released before the album in more formats than just vinyl, but there wasn't the time or resources to do so. This rectifies that. The A side is the edit from the download-only "VOL Singles EP" and the B side the unreleased original EU promo master mix. Every effort has been made to insure this contains versions not otherwise available, and for the record, we are releasing it strictly as a promotional item; the band is not being paid for it at all...we're getting a few copies for our personal collection...that's it.
I've made it a point to be very clear on the contents of each release so that you can determine for yourselves whether or not it is worth purchasing. A lot of the folks on this board are in fact old-school, thus probably already have everything in one format or another...if that's the case, unless you're a completist, there's no reason to buy something twice. This goes for any other repressings as well - any "archival" releases from WHW that surface between now and 2014 are primarily for the people that are writing us & our partners every day because they missed them/just discovered they existed. We're doing our best to accommodate everyone. If you have the first pressing of anything, and it has a special value to you, then by all means, revel in that...don't spend your money again for a different sleeve or color of vinyl.
For those of you that DO have everything, let me just state that there will be 100% brand new releases coming sooner than later...those are in fact for YOU specifically...I can't get into all of the details at this specific moment, but in about a week or so, press releases will be issued. What we are preparing for you is absolutely a labor of love and will be of particular interest to everyone that was around Wuerzburg in February (yes, that is a hint).
Additionally, "Fear Of Infinity" is being scheduled for a late Spring 2011 release...and there will be more than that coming too...I've got another entire album composed to follow that within 18-24 months of the release of "FOI"
In light of the many disparate opinions about archival releases, let me articulate that once I complete my "life's work"/primary ambition, all of the past releases will be issued a final time, and there will NOT be any further limited editions of those. They will NOT contain any of the original mixes, and will all be expanded significantly. These will not surface any earlier than 2014. I do not wish to give away all the details, but I will say that everything will be doubled in size and scope. And I daresay, if you were so inclined to purchase a 2nd version of any previous release, these would be the ones to hold out for.
While it is not the desire of myself nor WHW to piss on anyone's chips with reissue after reissue, the latter point strictly addresses my own personal ambitions, the very reasons this band exists...I want to feel content in that what I've attempted to express is 100% accurate emotionally...that it sounds like what I've always heard in my head.
The whole point of the 20th Anniversary series is to make those recordings available in their original form, one final time...particularly for everyone that missed the originals, which were extremely obscure and very much limited...and to correct all the fuck-ups past. Please do not spend your hard-earned money on something you already have and are satisfied with it. If you are a completist, thank you for your undying support...we strive to make every release worth your while.
To summarize...after 2010, there will NOT be any further limited editions of anything on CD ever again. Vinyl, well...enough copies will be pressed to insure that everyone that wants them will be able to get them (which was not the case with the series released earlier this year).
Our focus at this time is primarily upon 100% brand new releases, but we will continue to release archival recordings between the new ones, especially considering I've recently discovered 8 DAT tapes from the 90's...and have started the process of transferring old reel-to-reel masters to digital...this will result in the unveiling of a massive quantity of previously unreleased material, including an entire unreleased album from 1995. There's so much going on, I cannot even begin to explain here.
Thanks to everyone for your time, attention, and understanding. Our apologies to anyone that takes umbrage at the issue of repressings, but we're going to do our part to insure that all WHW fans are accommodated...hence addressing the past as well as pressing forward.
Cheers
Tom/WHW
