Es war übrigens lustig, im hiesigen Plattenladen mit hohem Hipsterfaktor und Metalhassern hinter der Theke festzustellen dass das Doppelalbum es gnadenlos auf Platz 1 der Verkaufsliste geschafft hat. Maiden schlagen halt alle mit links.

Motörhead haben das auch mit ihrem aktuellen Album geschafft, also auf Platz 1 der Charts.

Weil sie gluecklicherweise ein paarTage frueher veroeffentlich haben ;)

Prinzipiell schon, allerdings zaehlt dann sowas wie Maiden, AC/DC und Metallica nicht mit rein, die sind staerker als jeder "Trend" oder etablierte Markt. Slayer sind da schon ein paar Nummer kleiner und muessten da wohl kaempfen.

Wenn Bands wie die drei oben genannten neue Alben veroeffentlichen kann wohl so gut wie jeder einpacken...

Ja klar, da geht die Zielgruppe auch weit über die Metalszene an sich hinaus.
Dafür schaffen es im Rap-Bereich immer wieder auch ziemlich neue Künstler in die Top10, die definitiv nur vom Kernpublikum gekauft werden. Wobei die Charts natürlich generell nicht mehr so aussagekräftig sind, wie sie mal waren...

Bei AC/DC & METALLICA gebe ich Dir recht. MAIDEN sind jedoch meiner Meinung nach immer noch ein reines Metal-Produkt. Aber IRON MAIDEN wird eben von den Fans aller Metal-Genres gehört/gekauft/geliebt, egal ob Hard Rocker oder Thrasher.

Rap, Soul, Jazz, da werden sehr viele Alben gekauft. Im Rap oder Dub Step auch immer noch viele Maxis. Die DJ-Szene hat da viel Arbeit für den aktuellen Vinylwahnsinn vorgelegt.

Iron Maiden sind wie Scorpions, Metallica, AC/DC eine Marke in der Kategorie Phil Collins, Madonna, Prince, Michael Jackson, Springsteen, U2, Helene Fischer, Andrea Berg, Hansi Hinterseer, Robbie Williams, Fanta 4 und und und. Egal weches Genre, die Platten oder DLs solcher Künstler werden gekauft.

Da ist die Musik stellenweise zweitrangig. Da heißt es auch bei Ü60ern, "Wos, an Eddie gibt's a no? Mei domois, woasd as no, in Doningd'n, mei war i bsuffa und de ganz'n Ami-Flidscherl und Inselaff'n. Mei, war des schee. Woasd wos, i kaaf ma de do jetzad!"
So ungefähr klingt das im Müller, Mediamarkt und Co..

Bemerkung am Rande: gerade wurde hier einen feinen weissen Bergerac entkorkt und dreht The book of souls ihre jungfräuliche Runde.

Ich auch.

Ich befürchte, dass sie unserem Prof nicht gefallen wird. Würde mich jedenfalls nicht wundern, aber ich finde es dennoch toll, dass er sich hier (genau wie der Siebi) so aktiv an der Diskussion beteiligt.

Ich bin ein riesiger Fan von SOLSTICE und DARK FOREST, aber ich glaube tatsächlich, dass, würden beide Bands solche genialen, urenglischen Leads wie MAIDEN in "The Red & the Black" oder "The Book of Souls" schreiben, der Ungeround würde heulend vor Freude auf die Knie fallen, und nicht umgekehrt!

Diesen Satz kapiere ich nicht ganz. DARK FOREST spielen doch schon immer absolut urenglische Leads, klingen auch noch eigenständig, und wischen nebenbei bemerkt mit neueren Maiden-Alben aber mal sowas von den Fußboden. (SOLSTICE hingegen weißnicht, die Band ist mir egal.)

Das kam womöglich etwas missverständlich rüber. Klar haben DARK FOREST schon immer diese Leads gespielt und werden auch (zu recht) dafür abgefeiert. Was ich meinte ist, dass das, was IRON MAIDEN auf dem neuen Album unter anderem bei "The Red & the Black" (ab 9:10) abliefern, gar nicht soweit entfernt von "Sons of England", "A Deadly Premonition" oder, um nochmal auf SOLSTICE zu verweisen, "White Horse Hill" ist. Würden DARK FOREST einige Leads von der neuen MAIDEN auf ihrer nächsten Platte einbauen, würde es meiner Meinung nach keiner merken, was für die Qualität der neuen MAIDEN spricht. Ist natürlich nur mein Empfinden. Wie gesagt, ich liebe DARK FOREST, für mich die vielleicht beste "neue" Band im Moment, aber als Gesamtpaket sind MAIDEN dann doch noch mindestens eine Klasse darüber, sogar in ihrer momentanen Verfassung. (Mit Ausnahme einiger Tracks natürlich, die tatsächlich besser als vieles von MAIDEN nach 1990 ist) Aber vielleicht wenden Horton & Co. das Blatt ja mit ihrem nächsten Album, zutrauen würde ich's ihnen.

Und ganz ehrlich ich bekomme irgendwie keinen Zugang zu dem Album. Irgendwie alles "the same". Alles schon mal in besser gehört. Das will alles so erwachsen, reif und durchdacht sein, aber irgendwo fehlt mir da das Feuer der alten Maiden.

Wer aber bislang mit den Reunion Maiden zufrieden war, wird wohl auch mit dem neuen Album zufrieden sein. Eine Rückbessinnning auf die frühen 80er oder mal gänzlich neue impulse? - Fehlanzeige.

Ich muss dieses Review von metalarchives.com noch hinterher schieben. Auch wenn mein Fazit bekanntermaßen anders ausfällt, finde ich es dennoch grandios geschrieben! Besonders der Teil zu "Empire of the Clouds", großes Schreib-Kino.

When it comes to thinking up insulting puns for albums I don’t like, I like to make sure that my chosen epithet reflects the content of the music itself. Before hearing “The Book of Souls”, I had decided that, if it ended up being another post-reunion Maiden effort full of bloated, mid-tempo songs, I would refer to it forevermore as “The Book of Snores”. Yet, having heard the material, I have settled on “The Book of Sucks”. As a piece of wordplay it’s witless, predictable, done-before, completely lacking in any energy, novelty or creativity… it simply makes you want to groan – just like the music on this album.

“The Book of Sucks” plays out like a parody of an aging heavy metal band. If Hollywood’s interested in making another Spinal Tap movie, perhaps turning it into a cringeworthy bromance comedy about ancient rockers, they needn’t bother – just send a few cameras and a few Adam Sandlers along with the forthcoming Book of Sucks World Tour. Listening to this record is like being beaten over the head with a baseball bat by a tag team of Mr. Burns and Grampa Simpson. From the get-go, there’s this niggling feeling that you’re about to be subjected to an hour and a half of unyieldingly feeble, lethargic attempts at headbanging by some confused old men who keep forgetting where they are or what they’re doing.

The longer songs of the album are one of its defining features. “Empire of the Clouds” in particular is worth a mention, as it was touted by early reviewers as some sort of masterpiece that would redefine the way people looked at Iron Maiden. Variously, I heard it described as “revolutionary”, “emotional”, and a “magnum opus” – a sample of just some of the saccharine paeans that were flowing around this track before the record was released. I have to say, I am absolutely baffled. This has to be one of the most absurdly turgid, unexciting songs ever written in heavy metal. I remember thinking Judas Priest had lost the plot with “Lochness”; by writing a slow, plodding song about an imaginary Scottish plesiosaur that went on for thirteen and a half minutes, they had gone full Tap in my mind. But I was a naïve fool: here, we have an eighteen minute long slow rocker telling the tale of an old airship, featuring the model number, proper aeronautical terminology, corny strings and brass, and a section where they play in Morse code - and that description pretty much covers everything you need to know about this song. If Maiden ever want to top this attempt to out-Tap-the-Tap with overblown, bloated, comically-pompous songs about unlikely subjects, they will have to indulge us with a 34-minute epic tale of the events that led to the construction of an ancient Welsh commode, featuring a guest soliloquy by Ian McKellen (as the chief commode engineer's conscience), a three-way shred sitar harmony performed by a hologram of Ravi Shankar, and a full lights show in the recording studio which will be so grandiose and epic and amazing you'll actually hear the lights as you listen.

If you like that style, then I imagine you’ll enjoy this record – its positives are basically that Dickinson’s still on form and the band is still sounding very much like Iron Maiden - but if you think that outings like “The Final Affront to the Ears” have been forgettable and sub-par, then, like me, you’ll leave “The Book of Sucks” gathering dust, hoping that, if there’s a next time, Iron Maiden will come up with something a little more exciting. Because, if they intend to continue in this vein, there’s little hope of another great heavy metal record from this band. Perhaps they should conclude the forthcoming Book of Sucks World Tour with a full performance of “Empire of the Clouds”, culminating in a real airship crashing into the arena, killing everyone. It’s what their idols-apparent Spinal Tap would do, and at least they’d be going out with some of the fire and spectacle that once made them the most exciting band in heavy metal.
